Anthropic embeds Accenture as first frontier evaluator

Anthropic named Accenture’s Faculty unit its first embedded frontier evaluator — the first concrete step on Amodei’s “pace the frontier” evaluator commitment. In a Friday company post, Anthropic says Faculty will red-team models, run alignment assessments, and test safeguards with access “comparable to an employee’s,” watching training and deployment decisions from inside. Anthropic and Accenture each “expect to invest at least $1 billion” building capacity in this area over five years; given “importance and urgency,” Anthropic will fund Accenture’s work directly. The deal is non-exclusive; Anthropic says it is in dialogue with METR and other nonprofit evaluators under different funding arrangements, and that embedded evaluators do not reduce its own accountability.

Why it matters

Operationalizes the first leg of Amodei’s pacing proposal (employee-like third-party access with publish rights subject to narrow redactions). That critique is about governance design, not about whether Faculty will sit inside the building.

Positioning
